The White Stripes Officially Call It Quits

The White Stripes have made a not so special announcement yesterday. The duo released a letter for fans on their website, announcing they have officially called it quits.

The White Stripes would like to announce that today, February 2nd, 2011, their band has officially ended and will make no further new recordings or perform live. The reason is not due to artistic differences or lack of wanting to continue, nor any health issues as both Meg and Jack are feeling fine and in good health.

Lead Single Off An Artist’s 4th Album..

The Strokes just released the lead single off their upcoming album Angles, the fourth album from a band I’m not a big of fan of (I will fully explain why in a blog next month). Usually the third album is the make or break album for a band, and the fourth is one that solidifies their standing.  The Strokes third album was not as good as their second which was nowhere as good as their first, so in essence this album becomes both a comeback album as well as a make or break album to establish if they have any relevance 10 years down the road. Based on listening to the first single, “Under Cover of Darkness”, it seems like they will fade off into the sunset.

I’ve taken the lead single off of a  few major bands fourth albums as a comparison, and there’s only a few exceptions where a weak lead single off a fourth album hasn’t hurt the band, but please note in those cases, those bands had a monster third album, which the Strokes did not…

Spotlight: Audrey Bitoni

Captain America: Super Disappointment?

With Captain America: The First Avenger hitting theaters next summer, it was only expected that the accompanying game would start to get some face-time right about now. Sega has begun promoting it, with their first big push being at the New York Comic Convention. At the end of a very long line sat an early version of the game. Titled Captain America: Super Soldier, the game puts you in control of America’s finest superhero as he fights off armies of oppressors who are steadfast in taking over the world.

Dead Rising 2 Review

Although I never actually finished the first Dead Rising, I did have enough fun to warrant picking up the sequel, and I’m loving it even more.

Dead Rising 2 is the story of Chuck Green, a former Pro Motocross rider who was forced to compete on the reality game show “Terror Is Reality”(TIR) so that he could afford the drug Zombrex for his daughter, who was bitten by zombies during a past attack that claimed the life of his wife.  After an explosion lets the zombies run rampant through the city, Chuck, his daughter and a few other survivors make it to a safe house, where they have to wait three days for the military to come and rescue them.  While waiting, Chuck is rocked with news that he is being blamed for the explosion.  Now it’s up to Chuck to save the other survivors and prove his innocence before the military arrives.

Halo: REACH Review

Well, after a long hiatus, the Doctor is back and in charge of writing the latest installment of the Halo franchise, Halo: Reach. Moondoggie82 gave me this honor simply because he knows damn well that I have never been a fan of any Halo game, and if anyone was going to give an honest review it was gonna be me. So let’s get started…

If this is truly Bungie’s last production of the game that put Microsoft’s Xbox on the platform map so many moons ago, then they’ll go out on top. One of the first things that I noticed about Halo: Reach is the finely tuned menu system, which not only offers new gameplay modes like Firefight from O.D.S.T., (think of “The Horde” from Gears of War or “Nazi Zombies” from Call of Duty: World at War) but the main menu now displays the status of your friends who are playing Reach and allows you to peruse their service records and invite them into your party or join up with them for Co-op gameplay. Halo campaigns, for me, have been boring, tedious, run-and-gun sessions which really didn’t show me any sort of challenge, with mindless A.I.’s standing in place and waiting for me to waste them. Here, this is where Halo: Reach is much different.  Not only has the A.I.’s aiming been improved, their evasion tactics and their battlefield skills seem to have been enhanced as well.  Simply put, if they spot you, they are gonna come for you.  Many times I’ve been flanked by Elites and had a sticky grenade thrown on me with deadly accuracy, which made me question once or twice if was I playing the solo campaign or the multi-player.

Mega Hype! Yogi Bear On The Big Screen

Oh shit, are y’all excited about the new Yogi Bear movie? The first promotional poster was given the big reveal by Warner Brothers last night. Yes! The demand for this flick has been way high, dawg. Like everybody wanted a Yogi Bear film…espesh in 3D. It’s finally coming out in December! And in the same week TRON: Legacy gets released. Merry Christmas to everybody! I know what I’m seeing that week, motherfuckers. Fuckin’ Tron is for fags.

Dan Akroyd and Justin Timberlake are the big selling points for this. Not gonna lie…I’m def excited about sweet JT as Boo Boo. My fingers are crossed for mad Timberlake bangers on the soundtrack. Also, it looks like Dr. Ray Stantz is following in the footsteps of his old Ghostbuster pal, Bill Murray, by voicing an iconic animal. The Garfield movies were excellent pieces of cinema, so Dannyboy needs to step the fuck up here. Check out the trailer! OMFGahh.

FLAM’s Fashion Fail: Flip Flops

Flip flops are usually pretty gross. Wearing them at the beach is A-ok. Putting them on in your own home is totally acceptable. Getting the mail, and walking your dog? Also fine. But hanging out in public with flip flops is a bad look. Why not wear cooler footwear to max out your outfit? It’s so disappointing to see a beautiful girl wear a sexy dress and cheap Old Navy flip flops. People shouldn’t wear them while sporting nice clothes. You ever ask a girl out on a date, and she comes out wearing flops? It’s fucked up!

If you absolutely must wear flip flops cause you’re effin lazy, at least mix them up and wear clean ones. Those nasty once white but now brown/black flimsy sandals are filthy. Show some goddamn respect for yourselves.

Dear Jane: Will Anal Sex Make Me Crap The Bed?

Backbreaker Demo Review

So finally the Backbreaker demo is here. Me being a demo whore I had to download it as soon as it came out. This game has been talked about for a few years now and always getting pushed back due to uncertain reasons. So I loaded it and started the exhibition game right away,ready to break some tackles and score! Well I was in for a surprise. If you are expecting NFL Blitz then this is not the game for you. If you are expecting Madden well this is definitely not the game for you.

I recommend anyone who plays the demo to start with the training mode first to get the controls down pat. The controls are very different than any football game I have played. After playing a few games I got the hang of it but it was not what I was expecting. I think this game will be a failure at launch since it will give everyone false hope of a game better than Madden.

The Good:

• The gaming engine is amazing.
• Running is finally easier than passing.

The Bad:

• All players move the same.
• Passing the ball is not easy.
• No real teams/players.

I don’t see this game making an impact in the market. I rather play NFL Blitz or Madden.

Quick thoughts on E3 2010

Our friend Davy over at nerdpundit.com wrote a great review on the E3 2010. Be sure to check it out.

With Microsoft and Sony playing catch-up to Nintendo each with their own version of motion control, it was easy for Nintendo to steal the bacon. While Sony and Microsoft both attempted to wow us with their new hardware, which promises to make us feel more physically invested and involved in games, Nintendo instead focused on games. Promising a new Zelda, new Kirby, a new Donkey Kong Country, new Metroid, and a remake of Goldeneye 007.

I’m not trying to say that Microsoft and Sony didn’t give us anything to be excited about because they certainly did. Microsoft’s main highlights were when they debuted sequels to their most popular franchises Halo and Gears of War. Gears of War 3 is going to feature 4 player campaign mode which looks pretty awesome. Sony’s biggest highlights came from sequels to their younger franchises Infamous, Dead Space, and Little Big Planet. As well as a return of an old classic, Twisted Metal, whose multiplayer features might have you busy for hours.

We’re coming to a changing of the guard, where developers are excited to be rid of the confines of the typical controller, and are now experimenting with the limits of motion control games. Unfortunately we might have to endure a slew of crappy games until the industry molds to what works and what doesn’t. It would be foolish think there wasn’t a learning curve with these things. One motion control game that worries me is The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword. I’m concerned about gamer’s stamina. To exhaust a Zelda title of all of its features can at times take 40+ hours. When the effort of a sword swing, bomb throw, or arrow shot is increased from a simple button combination to actual motions done performed by you, I worry that those 2-4 hour games will be a lot more tiring. Tiring to the point where effort verse return value might slip to the other side of the proverbial line, because if this happens and the effort of playing the game is greater than the entertainment value received from playing it then we’re going to see a lot of unfinished quests. This would be a terrible thing. I’m hoping in the future that there will be two types of games in for each system, motion control games and classic controller games, because sometimes I just want to sit back relax and let my character do all the work.

What was the most disappointing or exciting parts of E3 for you?
